Wal-Mart and “Big Box” resources

Here is a brief description of the Eastern Maine Fair Economy Commission.

  • Wal-Mart Watch: In Spring 2005, Wal-Mart Watch began its nationwide public education campaign to challenge the world’s largest retailer to become a better employer, neighbor, and corporate citizen. See also the Wal-Mart Watch resources page.
  • Institute for Local Self-Reliance: ILSR provides technical assistance and information on environmentally sound economic development strategies.

CAFTA, AFTA, WTO, GATS, and other Trade Agreements

  • Global Exchange: Global Exchange is a membership-based international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world.  A good source of information on fair trade issues world-wide.
  • Global Trade Watch: GTW promotes democracy by challenging corporate globalization, arguing that the current globalization model is neither a random inevitability nor “free trade.” The GTW Web site has extensive resources on GATS and regional and bilateral trade agreements, including a searchable GATS directory.
