Our director, Tom Grogan, has an array of interests and experiences. He is a married father of two. His son, Conor is 18 years old and his daughter, Caleigh is 14. His wife, LyAnn, is the training director at KFI, a Millinocket based non-profit working with people with disabilities. He and his family have lived in Bangor since 2004. In 2009 Tom received his Masters of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary. In 2001 he received his Masters in Organizational Leadership and Management from Springfield College's School of Human Services.
Tom is passionate about community building and social justice. He especially enjoys helping people to organize themselves to speak with one voice, empowering themselves to identify internal and external challenges and to develop the resources to respond effectively to those challenges.
Since the late 1970s Tom has had a particular interest in working with a U.S. based organization with feet firmly planted in both the United States and El Salvador. In PICA Tom has found a kindred spirit. We think we've found one too!
Ellen Gray, Office Manager
When she is an elder, retired from the bookkeeping life, Ellen may travel about the globe. She does some of this now, when not working, with her best friend in “her convertible with big sunglasses on and [her] purple scarf blowing in the breeze.” And when she is not clad in big sunglasses, she happily spends her time with her siblings, sons, and grandchildren. Like the beginning of a day, when the world is quiet and new, Ellen approaches life with a sense of hope, as though each day held endless possibilities. It is in this spirit, that Ellen will do the “dance of joy” if one were to join the PICA community.

PICA is a grassroots organization in Bangor, Maine. For nearly 25 years we have been building grassroots community alliances that address global problems of economic justice, human and worker rights. Our work is grounded in careful listening, telling and sharing stories. Our goal is to transform both individuals and institutions. We have helped make Maine a leader among all states in addressing the effects of the global economy on our own lives.
